PROGRAM CLOSURE INFORMATION - ADDICTION EDUCATION

Please review the following information to learn more about the pending Addiction Education program closures.

What is happening?

The Addiction Careworker Diploma and Addiction Studies Certificate have been offered through McMaster University Centre for Continuing Education since 2001. After an extensive assessment, these programs have been closed and we are no longer accepting applications. As a result, a new program called w88Việt nam Professional Addiction Studies (Certificate and Diploma) will launch in fall 2018.

Why is this happening?

Academic programs undergo a formal review process on a regular basis. This ensures that the curriculum is current and meets the needs of students, professional associations, and potential employers alike. When the program review committee deems that a program should undergo significant changes, it may be decided that the current program should close and a new program should launch.

What does this mean?

Students in the current Addiction Careworker Diploma and Addiction Studies Certificate will have 18 months from the program closure date of February 15, 2018 to complete their program requirements. This means that students will have until August 31, 2019 to complete their outstanding courses

Courses for the Addiction Careworker Diploma and Addiction Studies Certificate will continue to be offered with monthly intakes in the Online Self-Study format.

As of Fall 2018, courses will no longer be offered in person.

What are my options?

There are a number of options for you as a current student to consider:
  1. Complete your remaining credits by August 31, 2019 to earn your Certificate or Diploma

  2. If you are in the Diploma program (24 units of credit) and you prefer not to take your remaining credits within the 18 month period, you may wish to consider switching to the Certificate (any 15 units of credit).

  3. You may consider applying to the new Professional Addiction Studies program (Certificate or Diploma) and transferring your current course credits. This option will be open for 18 months following the pending program closure on February 15, 2018. Refer to "Transfer Credits" section below.
  • Please note that, before transferring credits, students must apply an be accepted into the new program.
  • The new program has specific entrance requirements and applicants must meet these requirements to be considered for program admittance.
  • Your participation in the current program does not guarantee admittance to the new Professional Addiction Studies program.
  • There is a $59 fee to apply to the new program, however, transfer credit fees will be waived for those transferring credits into the new program from the current Addiction Careworker Diploma or Addiction Studies Certificate.
  • Applicants from the current Addiction Careworker Diploma and Addiction Studies Certificate must have completed no more than 50% of the current program in order to be eligible for program transfer. This option will be available for 18 months following the pending program closure on February 15, 2018.
