Course Descriptions

PLEASE NOTE:
The next start date for this program is January 2019.

This program runs on three consecutive weeks. Each session running from 9 AM - 12 PM with a 15 minute break. Each week, participants will meet at a different location (refer to Program Schedule below). 

Week 1: Leadership Resiliency and Culture

Theme/Topic:

  • Resilience and leadership in the face of uncertainty and change.
  • Resilient leadership as a strategy for thriving in a culture of disruption.
  • Engaging in creative and critical thinking.
  • Contemporary art and different ways of knowing through visual art.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify strategies for resiliency involving emotional regulation and heightened self-awareness.
  • Identify environmental factors, threats, change as influences on resiliency.

Week 2: The Art of Wellness

Theme/Topic:

  • Visual art and health connection.
  • Personal and community health and wellness strategies.
  • Introduction to artists' practice and creative thinking.
  • Introduction to indigenous visual culture and challenging colonial institutions.

Learning Outcomes:

  • How focus and connectedness to ourselves, our relationships and the community we live in contribute to our health.
  • Develop strategies to increase awareness of need for self-care and care of others.

Week 3: Humanistic Leadership and Self Awareness

  • Humanistic leadership definition and learning to lead by understanding ourselves and others.
  • Building a leadership network - emphasis on building relationships and collaboration.

  • Understanding diversity, bias and respect.

  • Develop greater skills in non-verbal and visual communication, observation, and reflection.
  • Explore diversity, bias and respect.
  • Reflect on values, practice for leading, and understanding self.
